Q. How would you describe your apprenticeship experience so far? Has it lived up to your expectations?
Qualification – Chartered Surveyor, Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship (Quantity Surveyor Pathway) BSc (Hons)
I have enjoyed my degree apprenticeship experience so far, it’s great being able to gain the knowledge at university and at work, then apply it to real-life projects. Also, the practical experience working on projects helps increase my understanding of my university course.
Q. Can you share an example of a particularly rewarding project or task you’ve worked on during your apprenticeship?
The most rewarding projects so far, and the first projects I worked on, include two major fast food restaurants for a leisure park operator, based in Norfolk and the Lake District. I am acting as the main point of contact and it is rewarding to see how the projects are progressing, having worked on the projects from initial estimates, throughout the tender period and now seeing them start on site.
Q. What do you enjoy most about working at Summers-Inman, and how has the team supported your professional and personal development?
I enjoy the variety of projects I get to work on and the independence and responsibility I am given. Summers-Inman also provide mentorship throughout my apprenticeship journey, providing regular catch-ups to review my progress, both at University and work.
Q. Finally, what would you say to someone thinking about starting an apprenticeship?
I would strongly advise them to consider an apprenticeship route. It’s challenging managing a degree and a full time job, however it is worth it as you gain a lot of experience and knowledge of the industry – there’s also the advantage of earning and not having any student debt!
