Edinburgh Building Surveyor, James Miller is running this year’s Edinburgh Marathon in aid of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS). CHAS is our Scottish charity partner and our team in Edinburgh have raised money for the charity for a number of years.
We have taken part in sponsored walks of the Pentland Hills and Water of Leith and to date, have raised over £5000 for CHAS. James will be continuing this legacy as he runs 26.2 miles in aid of the charity.
For thirty years CHAS have been offering a full family support service for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions. This includes palliative care, family respite and support – through our hospices, homecare services and hospital presence. Every donation ensures that these hospices can continue to offer a sanctuary of comfort, love, and laughter.
James is a keen runner and decided to take up the challenge for CHAS after fundraising at their Edinburgh office at Christmas. James helped the team with preparations for one of their many Winter Wonderland events. He had the chance to speak to members of staff and fellow volunteers, learning about all the wonderful things CHAS do to support families in times of need. He said, ‘I enjoyed giving up my time at Christmas to help those in need and wanted to continue this.’
James has been training hard since the start of 2024. You may see him on the Portobello Promenade in the early hours and late at night. He has managed to juggle his busy work schedule with his training.
James completed the Edinburgh Marathon two years ago and felt there was no better event to take part in to raise money for CHAS. The race is Scotland’s most popular marathon with over 16,000 runners taking part in 2023. He said, ‘I will just be happy to finish this year but will be pushing to try and beat my time from two years ago!’
He continued ‘Last time out, I found the run extremely challenging. It was my first running event, and I did not prepare well. However, with this year’s event, I have stuck to my training plan and I’m very excited to run on behalf of CHAS.’
The Edinburgh Marathon takes place on Sunday 26th May 2024.
