Project Outline: The concept for the creation of an exciting contemporary garden was the brainchild of the Duchess of Northumberland whose vision was to transform the existing derelict 12-acre walled garden located within the grounds of the Alnwick Castle in Northumberland into a beautiful public space accessible to everyone, a garden for contemplation, fun, inspiration and education.

Phases of work included:

  • Phase 1 – The Grande Cascade, Ornamental Garden and Rose Garden
  • Phase 2 – The Serpent Garden, the Poison Garden and Bamboo Labyrinth
  • The Treehouse – 6,000 sq ft complex of turret topped cottages linked by suspended walkways, in the trees outside the walls of the main garden.
  • Pavilion & Visitor Centre – facilities provided within the include both conferencing spaces and function suites.
  • Allerburn Car Park – provides 650 car park spaces and 20 coach spaces
  • Cherry Orchard
