Ambulatory Care Unit, NSECH, Cramlington

Client: Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Cramlington

Value: £20M

Project Outline: The project comprised of a new build 6,500m2 three-storey building which had to integrate with the existing hospital. It has a faceted external facade to create curved ends to the wing and is finished in the same blue and white render.

A hybrid solution was developed which incorporated both offsite and in-situ building methods and that maximised fit-out in the factory to enhance quality and reduce disruption to staff and patients.

The highly complex project on a live hospital site utilised offsite construction to deliver the building to a very short programme, achieving exceptional value for money and built to the Trust’s stringent quality standards.

Services: Trust Cost Advisor, NEC3 Project Manager

Roles and Achievements: Using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and leading-edge innovation, the Contractor (The McAvoy Group) offered a reduction of around 12 months compared to a traditional build programme for this substantial extension, which provides a 24% increase in footprint to the existing hospital.
