Creffield Medical Centre, Colchester

Client: GPG No. 5 Ltd

Location: Colchester

Value: £1.6M

Project Outline:  Conversion of a Grade II Listed former riding school on the former Le Cateau Cavalry Barracks into a two storey Primary Care Medical Centre whilst being sympathetic to retained features. The works involved associated works, car parking and minor demolition works located on the site and all new footpaths, hard and soft landscaping, perimeter and dividing fencing, bin enclosures, external lighting, drainage and service connections. The building is heated using a combination of underfloor heating and ceiling mounted cassette units (that also provide cooling) all from Air Source Heat Pumps.

Services: Employer’s Agent, Quantity Surveyor, CDM Co-ordinator and BREEAM Assessor

Roles and Achievements: As an existing Grade II Listed building, we arranged for a Structural Assessment to be carried out to allow for repair works to be undertaken to the satisfaction of the Heritage/Conservation Officer.

During the works, insignia/emblems were uncovered to the internal face of the external wall. Proposals were reviewed and conversations held with the necessary Conservation/Planning Officer to agree how they would be protected. A plaque was also installed providing the history of the insignia/emblems.

The project achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.
