Project Outline: Creating a brand new three storey office building providing new headquarters in Sheffield for specialist buildings products distributor, SIG. It has been constructed alongside SIG’s two existing operations, creating a campus style development designed to improve the company’s operational efficiency. Its facilities also include 275 car parking spaces complete with electric charging points.

Roles and Achievements:
Best value has been achieved by undertaking a series of value engineering exercises which resulted in cost savings across several areas. For example, applying a diversity calculation to the mechanical and electrical installations to utilise the existing AHU within the building – providing a saving on cost, programme and waste.
We ensured that the contractor implemented all the Good Practice measures one would expect on a major construction site within a live area. The two existing buildings had to remain operational during construction and so we worked alongside the principal contractor and principal designer to ensure that, when necessary, temporary car parking spaces or the release of existing car parking spaces were made available.
The project achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating. Its sustainable features include a herbaceous green roof, an air source heat pump, intelligent lighting, solar control lighting and brise soleil.
We made a positive contribution to carbon management and assisted in achieving significant reductions in carbon emissions. For example, adjusting the dimensions of the building to suit cladding panel sizes – providing a saving on waste.
