Location: Sunderland
Value: £14m
Project Outline: The project consisted of the refurbishment of the existing Accident and Emergency Department and adjacent Wards C34 and C35, to provide a new Emergency Department, together with upgrade / renewal of engineering services. The facility needed to be designed to provide dedicated areas for walk-in patients and emergencies for both adults and children.
Services: NEC3 Project Manager, Quantity Surveying / Cost Advisor and Principal Designer under CDM Regulations
Roles and Achievements: The project was successfully completed in accordance with the accepted contract programme and opened in June 2017. It was delivered in a live acute hospital environment which necessitated the implementation of complex phasing to mitigate any disruption. We carried out constant monitoring of the programme and effective communication with multiple stakeholders. Good teamwork was essential to manage risk and find technical solutions to problems of noise, vibration and asbestos. These were implemented without impacting on the quality of care being provided to patients.
