Reflecting on MIPIM 2022

Summers-Inman reflect on a fantastic week in Cannes at MIPIM 2022. The event brings together international property professionals, all sectors combined, and offers the opportunity to build lasting relationships.

MIPIM 2022, Cannes, France

David Blakey, Board Director and Alex Lodge, Director, attended on behalf of Summers-Inman. Alex gave insight into travelling and networking face to face again following cancellation of the event in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID, he said:

“It was refreshing to experience the ease of (safe) travel, to and from Nice. The lack of direct flights was perhaps a direct result of the uncertainty that surrounded whether MIPIM would take place physically in 2022, but indirect flights went smoothly and we got there on time (if a little out of breath due to the tightness of transfer in Paris!). Whilst Cannes was less busy than in an ordinary MIPIM, there were representations from most UK regions. Networking was embraced by all and the usual stack of business cards was brought back to eagerly follow up on.”

The main theme at MIPIM 2022 this year was to drive urban change to transform the spaces in which we live, work and play to enable a more sustainable and prosperous future for all. Other emergent themes included the opportunities that exist to engage with public bodies for inward investment and the appetite to promote development opportunity. Resilience of the UK, following the uncertainty of pandemic was also apparent – The UK is very much ‘open for business’, with Government agencies promoting UK opportunity as part of the UK pavilion.

Industry Trends at MIPIM 2022:

  • Decarbonisation
  • ESG
  • A busy market
  • Skills shortages

The current busy market is creating opportunities that exist across the UK and the industry is eager to deliver.

David and Alex said:

“Attending MIPIM 2022 allowed us to strengthen existing client relationships and open up conversation with a number of new contacts offering prospects to develop.

It was great to get back to in person networking and see the private and public sectors so keen to connect and explore development of economic opportunity.

Great to hear the UK and regions are open for business.

We’re already looking forward to MIPIM2023!”
